William Dreskin
William
Dreskin’s broad interests in the arts have
led him down various paths including biomedical illustrator, nature writer, artist, musician,
and award-winning fine art photographer. He is an author and has collaborated with his wife,
Wendy Dreskin, on a non-fiction book, and on numerous writing projects. William received
a graduate degree in World Music and performed in North Indian and West African ensembles.
He has also performed Western classical music on flute and recorder.
William's articles and photographs
have appeared in books and magazines including the Sierra Club magazine, Sierra, Marin Magazine, Travel and Leisure,
and American Art Collector and his photographs have also appeared in calendars and
have been exhibited in numerous galleries and national exhibitions. His photographs
are in private and corporate collections in the US and Europe.
William's intense interest in art began at an early age.
"My interest in art goes back as far as I can remember. As a teen growing up in New Jersey, I spent a lot of time
in New York City's museums, especially the Museum of Modern Art, and I was very drawn to abstract expressionism.
My artwork at that time (drawing, painting, welded sculptures, and constructions) was influenced by Joan Miro,
Paul Klee, and Wassily Kandinsky. After moving
to California, I began to take photographs on trips to the Sierra, Mount Lassen, Big Sur, and Point Reyes.
Starting with landscapes and details of flora and fauna, my interest in doing photography of natural subjects
as a way to express pure abstract form has increased over the years. I find the subtle and often unnoticed
features in the natural world just as interesting as the more spectacular displays. I hope that you will be
inspired by these images and that my photographs will create a sense of excitement about the beautiful
colors, forms, and intricate patterns inherent in the most "ordinary" things."
